Science of Tea is Now Officially a Certified Woman-Owned Business!
We are thrilled to announce that Science of Tea is now officially recognized by WBENC as a woman-owned business! This milestone is more than just a certification—it’s a testament to our journey and commitment science literacy.
Why We Chose to Become Certified
There are many barriers when starting a new business, being born a woman should not be one of them. By 2050, we envision young women learning the backstory of Science of Tea will find it odd to hear about women not having the majority of leadership roles throughout our society. This certificate was obtained in the year 2025 and statistics show less than 2% of ALL corporate boards based in the United States are compiled of at least 50% women.
Science of Tea is on a mission to turn every cup of tea into a science experiment. We want this message to reach every kitchen table to encourage discovery and awe in everyday places, even over a cup of tea. Becoming a certified woman-owned business demonstrates that we are serious and capable.
This start-up has been financed out-of-pocket and within the limited time between responsibilities. The gift sets were picked up by outfits such as Uncommon Goods and Scientifics Direct. Over the past two years, we've received repeated encouragement to keep going. Certification was the next logical step in the process of establishing new relationships and partnerships to help take this mission to the next level.
Why Women-Owned Business Certification Exists
The importance of certification goes beyond a label—it represents progress toward a more equitable marketplace where talent, determination, and innovation define success, not outdated barriers. Historically, opportunities in business, finance, and entrepreneurship were not accessible to all. Certain groups were systematically excluded from securing loans, starting businesses, and accumulating wealth, which limited the overall economic potential of our society.
Programs like women-owned business certification were established to create a more level playing field, ensuring that everyone with the drive and capability to build something meaningful has the opportunity to do so. These initiatives encourage competition, foster economic growth, and help bring fresh perspectives to old industries.
Women have always played a critical role in shaping our communities and industries, yet for generations, their contributions were overlooked. That’s changing. We’re seeing more women in leadership, on boards, and as decision-makers across industries. There’s still work to be done, but certification programs like this help ensure that businesses led by women receive the opportunities they’ve long been denied. This isn’t about excluding anyone—it’s about removing barriers that have long held others back.
